  • The term “custody” is used frequently in discussions around divorce where there are children involved. Though used widely, custody is also widely misunderstood. Custody in Colorado family law is not one concept but an umbrella term which encompasses two things – parenting time and decision-making. Instead of awarding “custody” to one parent, courts will allocate, based on an array of factors, parenting time and decision-making responsibilities between both parents accordingly.
